A portable CMM goes to the part instead of the part going to the machine. That means full racks, large weldments, and complex fabrications get measured in place—no breakdown, no transport, no waiting for floor space on a fixed bridge.

Why CMM and fabrication under one roof changes things

When measurement happens at an outside lab, dimensional problems get discovered after the part has already moved. By then the fixture is broken down, the welder is on another job, and the fix takes a week.

At Morrison, the CMM sits in the same facility as the engineering team and the fabrication floor. A part can come off a weld fixture, get scanned, and be back in front of the builder within the same shift. Issues get caught while the setup is still live — which is the only time a fix is cheap.
